What's the best way to get credit if I have a bad credit report?

I owe back child support of $100,000 because I was out of the country and the records never got to me and this shows up on my credit report. I am working earning $2800/mo and paying $1800 per month. I need to secure a loan of about $15,000 for a necessary purchase. Any ideas?

Reply:Hrm...well just because you got no notice doesn't mean you don't owe child support. Did you know of these children before you left the country and failed to support them? Seems fairly odd that you "didn't know" you owed someone to maintain your children.

Perhaps you should pay back the guardian of your children before you take out any loans. Nothing that cost $15,000 is NECESSARY. If you need a car, plenty of cheap used cars can be had for much less than $15,000.

Nowadays, many lenders are offering good deals to such people but with a higher interest rate. This is because lenders view the bad credit loans as risky propositions.
