How do I clear charge-off on my credit report that I was only the authorised user?

I recently found out I had a charge-off from a credit card company on an account that I was an authorised user on years ago. The account belonged to my ex-boyfriend. Since we broke up, I had never used the card nor received any communication from the card company obviously - the statements were not sent to my address. So now that is on my credit report. Should I contact the card company to clear it up - I was told that contacting them will "refresh" the debt and bad influence.

You can dispute the derogatory information as not yours. This may or may not resolve the issue, depending on what the credit card company's policies are on reporting information for authorized user. If it doesn't, then write the lender, requesting validation of the debt. If they can't send you proof that you signed as being liable for the debt, then they need to remove the derogatory mark.

Signing on as an authorized user to a card belonging to someone with a good credit history is often touted as a way to improve your credit history. You have discovered one of the downfalls of being an authorized user - any bad history also gets reported on your record.
Reply:i dont know
Reply:Authorized users are not responsible for any debt that is on the account.

As far as getting it removed, you should contact the credit card company and explain your situation and ask them to please remove it from your credit report. Depending on their company policy regarding authorized users, they may or may not, but it's worth a shot.
Reply:when you're an authorized user it will show on your credit as your having that available to you however you're not liable for the balance and it's not held against you either.
Reply:I'm not too sure what to tell you....however, here is a website, it specializes in divorce, but this is about the same thing. It shows you how to read and understand your credit report and also shows what your rights are if there are errors on your credit report and how to fix them.

Good luck!
