How do i get rid of old item on credit report?

I have an account, a student loan, that took me awhile to get paid off, I have paid it in full now and it is closed on my credit report, but it still remains a negative on the report. So my question is, is there ANYTHING I can do to get it removed since the account is paid in full?

How do i get rid of old item on credit report?
Not really the Fair Credit Reporting Act says that derogatory accounts will show on credit reports for 7-years from the date of first delinquency which works out to 7-years and 180-days.

Just because the account is paid will not remove it.
Reply:You're misunderstanding what your credit report is.

Your credit report is a history of credit related activities. Just because you've paid off a loan does not mean "bad" entries go away. Your credit report lists all activity, "good" and "bad" for the last seven years.

No, there is nothing you can do except develop credit habits that build up your score. Do business with other credit providers and demonstrate that you will pay your debts on time, all the time.
Reply:You can't just get an old itm off your report. Accounts are reported for 7 years from the date of last activity. In your case it will be 7 years from the day that you made the last payment on your loan.

The only thing you may have tried to negotiate during the re-payment process was a "pay for delete". you can still try it but not likely to happen.

Reply:If those who are assessing your credit worthiness do not understand such reports, take your business elsewhwre....The fact remains that it will not be removed, and that people have to understand this, and learn to ignore such debris ...and focus on the present situation....
Reply:It will be reported for up to 7 years as closed but delinquent. It is up to the entity that loaned you the money as to whether to continue to report it (although once on the report, it is hard to remove).
Reply:On your report should be a phone number or an address. call and ask..it worked for me
