What happpens after 7 years of a delinquency on your credit report?

I know that a delinquency will be gone after 7 years on your credit report. But what happens after that? Can the company come after you again and start all over again for another 7 years? I had a People's Energy bill I never paid because they were billing me for a month after I left the apt. and I had called to cancel service. They claimed I never called so I never paid them. Now I need service again and its been 8 years. Can they come after me again?

yes anyone can always come after you, but every state has a statute of limitations. generally, it's 4-5yrs....after that...they can sue you but will lose in court due to the statute.

i really doubt they would bother with a smalll account.
Reply:Well, they will look in their own database and see you owe them money... and they will want it, plus interest, before turning you on.

And you are right.... negative info will be removed from your credit report after 7 years. But it wont release your obligation to pay.
Reply:I guess that plan backfired on you, eh? When dealing with utility companies, it is better in my opinion to pay them and fight it afterwards, than to try and teach them a lesson by holding back money. Now you need this particular service again, and they will likely want the old debt paid, probably with 8 years of interest, plus a deposit.
Reply:Negatves fall off your credit report in 7 years but that doesn't mean the can't continue to try and collect.

If you never resolved the disputed charges, you may just have to pay whatever they say you owe. They don't have to extend credit to you. They may even require a large deposit after you pay that old outstanding debt.
Reply:Well, they can certainly refuse to give you service. It was one month in an empty apartment. Just pay it! Work a deal and offer them whatever the original debt was as payment in full.
Reply:of cousre they can come after you again! they have 7 years to SUE you, not to collection on the debt...
