Should i delete items from my credit report after i pay them off?

I am in the process of cleaning up my credit report and contacting the CRA's. Should i request a letter stating that they will delete these items or should i let them remain on my credit as paid off? Also is there any specific way i should go about contacting them or specific request i should make before i start paying?

Should i delete items from my credit report after i pay them off?
You can't, it doesn't work like that. Once you pay the debt off, these items will stay on your credit report for 7 years after you finsih paying off the debt. Once you pay off the debt, the item will show as "Paid in Full" and your score will go up since you have less debt-to-income and one less creditor that you owe money to. But they won't disappear for 7years.

You can only get an item cleared if you dispute the debt and the company disputed does not provide valid proof to the credit report company for 30 days.
Reply:Your credit report is a report that notes your credit history, which means you cannot elect to have something removed (unless it is an error). Paid off bills are part of your history, which isn't a bad thing. It shows you had debt and paid it off! If you leave the items open with a zero balance it will help your credit score inch its way up because you have "unused funds" available to you. It makes you look disciplined.
Reply:You do not have to ask for any prior history to be removed as this is part of your full credit history. You should only dispute items that are falsely representing your transactions. All your paid off items remain in the system for seven years.
Reply:You can use credit repair agency, for example this one - http://creditreport.imess.net

They will clean lots of bad stuff from your credit report - and do it much faster than yourself.
