Once a debt is reported onto my credit report as settled can it be changed?

I have a debt on my credit report marked settled. I am still getting collection calls for this debt. They claim that the company they are collecting from can change this item from settled to something else. Is this true?

Once a debt is reported onto my credit report as settled can it be changed?
No, once an account is settled, they can no longer collect on it or send it to another collection agency.

This is may be fraud or a misunderstanding.

Call the original account holder (who you settled with) and see if they know anything about the collector. Call the three credit bureaus and notify them of the issue. Make sure all 3 credit reports show the account as settled. Get the collectors number and search for it online. See what pops up.

This may be whats happening:

1) Someone is trying to get money from you by saying they represent a collection agency - this is fraud.

2) You attempted a settlement but did not pay it off according to the settlement plan. (This is unlikely if you have actually seen "settled" on the report)

3) One or more reporting agencies were not notified of the settlement, and a collector bought the account (also unlikely, since the original account holder would not have sold a settled account)
