How can I get an erroneous name off my credit report?

I checked my credit report last year and it listed as one of my former names the last name of my mother's ex-husband.

This is completely an error because that was never my last name and I recieve junk mail in that name frequently.

Would I have to show any sort of proof?

A short letter to the credit reporting agency should take care of that. A copy of your ID as proof of your name along with a statement that you've never used that name should suffice.

I had two bogus names and a non-existant wife removed from my record without any hassle at all. The only time you'd likely have any problem with that is if there is any negative information tied to that name.

Reply:You can call them up and tell them the information is incorrect. They will validate your with questions. That works 90% of the time with the personal info section. Unfortunately, its a lot more complicated to get false creditor information off.
Reply:Yes, you can dispute it. Contact the credit bureau and find out what kind of paperwork you would need in order to get that cleared off.

You'll likely need to send them a photocopy of your driver's license and social security card. They can then investigate and get rid of aliases that shouldn't be there.
