If a creditor marks your credit report and then later a debt collector marks your credit report?

If they have both marked your credit report for the same debt and you make a deal with the collection company does the creditor have to accept that deal and mark your credit report paid as well?

If a creditor marks your credit report and then later a debt collector marks your credit report?
Yes: When they sell or outsource a debt to a third-party agency, they are authorizing that agency to negotiate a settlement (it sounds like that's what you did). I would call the agency and request a SIF (settled-in-full) letter, call the original creditor and notify them what has happened and that they need to refer to the agency, and file a dispute through each of the credit bureaus if it is not reflecting correctly and you have allowed enough time for it to update (3 months, tops). You can order a free copy from each bureau via this government website: www.annualcreditreport.com
Reply:What does the original creditor say happened to the debt? If they sold it and that's what it says I think they just leave it at that as they wouldn't then be privy to the settlement.
