How does an unused credit card report on your credit report?

If I have a credit card that I do not use, how does this account reflect on my credit report? Does it show an open account in good standing?

How does an unused credit card report on your credit report?
No balance will show an account in good standing. It also represents possible credit. For good credit, it is a good idea to have at least 1 credit card. Too many credit cards is not good. To maintain a good credit score, it is best not to carry large balances. The best is to charge a very minimum amount on your card monthly (buy 1 tank of gas) and pay it off each month. This will keep your credit in good standing and show the financial world that you are responsible. If you have several credit cards and even if they have zero balances, I would decide on which 1 or 2 to keep and cancel the rest so that they come off your credit report.

Reply:The real answer: an unused credit card increases the average account age and total available credit. Both of these factors improve your credit score. The only time you'd want to use the card every now and then is if the issuer can close it due to inactivity (rare, and can often be reversed). Report Abuse

Reply:Yes. It shows as an account in good standing AND it records as if you're making an on time payment each month becuse it considers you 'current'.
